Week Five found Lucas living in a new home, a huge happy-cow pasture in eastern Sonoma county. The footing was soft grass and sand, and he had lots of equine companions to graze along side him.

Lucas was in pasture! And he was almost sound and moving easily while in his cushy Soft Ride boots!

He had a few setbacks because his knee had flared up, but all in all, Katja and I were very please with how Lucas had done over five weeks. He had at least two weeks of moderate discomfort, and his vet, a wonderful guy that everyone adores, was probably questioning our sanity, but the gamble was paying off.

Lucas was regaining his soundness!

These "before trim" photos may not look great to you, but to us? They showed remarkable improvement! His feet had been extremely horrible, and now they were only a little horrible. Note the worn Soft Ride rehab boots that Lucas wore day and night, in his stall and in pasture.

Lucas continues to have horrible Thrush.

The After Trim photos below had my stomach churning and rolling... this boy has weak soles and no wall! Well.... even the skeptic in me was forced to note the emerging concavity in all four feet - WHEE!!!

I left his weak under run heel in place to provide some sole relief, lightly beveled the edges, pulled his toes back as far as I dared and replaced the Soft Rides. He sauntered off, very comfortable, more comfortable with his feet than I was.
