CleanTrax
Soak
Materials:
an empty milk or orange juice
gallon jug to mix the CleanTrax
warm water
duct tape
a saddle or bb pad or something
on the horse is nice if you
want to tie the boot to a
stirrup to help hold it up
a watch a good book and a
comfy chair hay a place to
tie the horse some plastic
baggies - the tougher the
better - to fit over his foot
after you finish
The solution is good for 90
minutes -
1) get Cody all settled with
his hay
2) have everything in easy
reach
3) get the warm water and fill
the gallon jug half full - then
add the CleanTrax - it's very
fine powder so you have to be
careful. Shake to mix it well
then add the rest of the water
and shake again - if you add
the CleanTrax to a full jug
you can't mix it as well.
4) put the boot on the horse
5) pour enough into the boot
to just start to cover his hoof
6) duct tape the boot as tight
as you can (which isn't very
tight) around his fetlock joint
- this holds the boot in place
7) pour the rest of the solution
into the boot (actually one
gallon is enough for 2 feet
so you don't need all of it
for one foot
8) tighten the strap at the
top of the boot and I usually
wind duct tape around his leg
from the pastern all the way
up to help hold the boot in
place. It's the high column
of water that causes capillary
action and makes the CleanTrax
really do its job.
9) settle in and wait the allotted
time
When you're done, take the
boot off ( you can put it on
another foot because it still
has some time left.)
Put the baggies over the foot
you just soaked and duct tape
it on - this is to keep the
fumes working for another half
hour.
You can pour the CleanTrax
out in the stall or wherever
and it will kill fungii.
Additional notes for Linda:
I use the boots that the CleanTrax
people sell but you can use
an old inner tube from a tire
- tape off and seal one end.
The important part is the high
column of water. The CleanTrax
boots are $10 and KC sells them

. They are reusable and I've
even mended a hole in mine and
keep on using them.
The CleanTrax lasts for 90
minutes so you can do 3 feet
for 30 minutes or 2 feet for
45 minutes. I usually do 40
minutes per foot, 2 feet at
a time using 2 batches - then
move the boots to the next set
of feet. My horses all tolerate
the boots just fine and will
stand for that amount of time
with little fuss.
After I soak the foot, I put
the baggie on the foot and put
on an Old Mac or a Davis boot
for another 40 minutes to allow
the fumes to keep on killing
critters.
It takes a half a day with
no interruption but I've found
it knocks the gunky frogs and
heels just fine.
If you have any questions just
holler.... I'll see if I've
forgotten sometnign - and don't
be afraid to edit and clarify
